MADIDI: Rainforest and Macaws

2 Days 1 Night 

Day 1. We will leave Rurrenabaque at 8:30 am and take a boat trip that lasts 3 hours, enjoying spectacular views of the rivers Beni and Tuichi before entering the Madidi National Park. We will arrive at our eco-lodge around noon where you will receive a refreshing glass of fruit juice as a welcome before being shown your accommodation. We will then have lunch. In the afternoon we will walk along our trail named “dry creek” where you will see a variety of plants and learn about their many uses. They provide us with our medicines, craft and construction materials.  With a little luck we will see some species of monkeys, peccaries, birds and many insects.

After dinner we can relax.

Day 2. Breakfast will be at 7:30 am then we will take the boat to visit “the Cliff of the Macaws”, one of the best places in Madidi National Park to watch macaws, parrots and other birds. At the same time you can also enjoy the breath-taking view of the Amazon Basin and its many rivers. Here you can also take a short walk to look at the habitat of peccaries and other large mammals. After lunch we will return to Rurrenabaque where we arrive at around 4:30 pm.

MADIDI: The Culture of the Jungle 3 Days 2 Nights 

Day 1. We will begin this trip by leaving Rurrenabaque at 8:30 am. After an hour’s boat trip we will visit a local community to learn a little of the way of life in the jungle. During the boat ride along the rivers Beni and Tuichi we can enjoy magnificent landscapes such as the Bala Canyon. When we arrive at our Eco-lodge, “Mashaquipe”, you will be welcomed with a refreshing glass of fruit juice, will be shown your accommodation and we will have lunch. In the afternoon we will take a leisurely walk along trails specifically designed for watching animals such as monkeys and peccaries and for learning about the natural environment.

Day 2. Breakfast will be at 7:30 am. After breakfast we will prepare for spending a night camping in the depths of the jungle. We will have to carry the essential equipment (sleeping bags, sleeping mats, mosquito nets) during a walk of about 4 hours to reach our camp, ” Arenalito”, where we can prepare lunch and rest. At approximately 3:30 pm we will walk to the top of a mountain where we can see nesting macaws, parrots and other birds. From there we can watch these colourful birds, enjoy the beautiful scenery of the rainforest and a stunning sunset. That night, if you want, we can take a short walk during which we have a great chance of spotting armadillos, snakes, monkeys, tapirs, nocturnal birds etc. Often at night you can hear the roar of the jaguar or puma.

Day 3. We will get up at 5.00am to take a short walk near the camp where we can enjoy the sunrise and listen to noisy howler monkeys and a variety of birds welcoming the new day. After breakfast we will head for the River Tuichi where we will build a log raft (traditional transport of the Amazonian Indians) and go rafting for about 2 hours. However we will also have the boat for security, our backpacks and for people who do not wish to participate in this activity. We will have lunch at the Mashaquipe eco-lodge and later return to Rurrenabaque where we will arrive at about 16:00 pm.

Before arriving we will see, from the top of a mountain, spectacular macaws and parrots; a magnificent view of Madidi National Park and a beautiful sunset. We will then have dinner and rest.

Day 4. Different sounds of birds and monkeys greet the new day. We will have breakfast at about 8:00 am, collect our belongings and then go to the River Tuichi where we will build a log raft (traditional transport of indigenous Amazonian people) and go rafting for about 2 hours. However we will also have the boat for security, for our backpacks and for people who do not wish to participate in this activity. We will have lunch at the “Mashaquipe” eco-lodge and later return to Rurrenabaque where we arrive at about 16:00 pm

Day 4. The different songs of birds and monkeys greet the new day. At about 8:00 am we will have breakfast, collect our belongings and then move to our camp named “Arenalito”. Before arriving we can see, from the top of the mountain, spectacular macaws and parrots, enjoy the view across Madidi National Park and watch a beautiful sunset. We will have dinner and rest. If you want you can take a walk on the beaches of the River Tuichi to look for caiman eyes by torchlight.

Day 5. – Breakfast will be at 8:00 am. Then we will collect our belongings and go to the River Tuichi where we will build a raft of logs (traditional transport of the Amazonian Indians) and go rafting for about 2 hours. However the boat will be there too, for our security, backpacks and for people who do not wish to participate in this activity. We will have lunch at the “Mashaquipe” eco-lodge and later return to Rurrenabaque where we arrive at about 16:00 pm

MADIDI: Challenging the Spirits of the Forest

6 Days 5 Nights 

Day 1. We will leave Rurrenabaque at8:30 a.m. After an hour’s boat trip we will visit a community, “Villa Alzira”, where we will learn something about the way of life of the local people. We will then continue the trip up the rivers Beni and Tuichi where we can enjoy spectacular landscapes such as the Bala Canyon. Upon our arrival at the eco-lodge “Mashaquipe” you will receive a welcoming glass of fruit juice before lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the bamboo forest, a special place for seeing some animals, such as peccaries, turtles and others. You may also be surprised by the giant trees that grow in the rainforest. On our return to the eco-lodge we will have dinner and then rest.

Day 2. Breakfast will be at 7:00 am. Then we will take our backpacks to start our adventure into the depths of the jungle. After 4 hours of walking we will reach the small river called “Idiria” where we will prepare our lunch. You can also use this time to take a refreshing swim in its clear waters. After a rest we will continue walking for about another 2 hours and will look for a suitable place (river beach) to camp overnight. After dinner we can take a night walk to look for the eyes of caiman, deer and others. With luck we may see a tapir or jaguar. As an optional activity we can go piranha fishing.

Day 3. – We will get up at 5:00 am in order to enjoy the sunrise in the rain forest and to listen to the different songs of birds and monkeys as they greet the new day. At about 8:30 am we will have breakfast. Then we will continue our trek to our new camp site, stopping for lunch, at an appropriate time and place. At approximately 3:30 pm we will arrive at our camp “Tapir footsteps” where we will stay overnight. If everyone still has enough energy we can take a night walk.

Day 4. –Breakfast will be at 6:30 am and then we will take our backpacks and climb the “Mountain of the Spider Monkeys”. Here we can look at different mountain landscapes and enjoy the views across Madidi National Park. During the walk we will be able to watch spider, howler and capuchin monkeys. In the afternoon we will arrive at our camp “Patujusal” where we will have dinner and rest.

Day 5. – Breakfast will be at 7:30. Then we will make a circuit around the “Patujusal” camp in order to watch the spider monkeys and continue to be surprised by the amazing rainforest biodiversity: the array of plants and insects. We will return to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon we will go to the “Arenalito” camp. Before arriving we can enjoy, from the top of the mountain, the spectacular macaws and parrots, the view across Madidi National Park and a beautiful sunset. We will have dinner and rest.

PAMPAS: Caimen and Pink Dolphins 

2 Days 1 Night 

Day 1. – We will leave at 8.30 am and travel in a comfortable vehicle to Santa Rosa. Along the way we will have great opportunities to see sloths, anteaters, birds, and other animals. Around midday  we will take a boat trip of about 15 minutes to our eco-lodge, “The Turtles”. You will be shown your accommodation and we will have lunch. In the afternoon, after a rest, we will go along the River Yacuma by boat to look for and take pictures of caimen, capybara, turtles, many bird species and others. Before we return we may be able to swim with the beautiful pink river dolphins which live in this wonderful place. (This is dependent upon the season.)

Day 2. – We will get up early (5:00 am) to watch the sunrise and listen to the sounds of howler monkeys and birds which herald the awakening of the pampas. We will have breakfast and then go back out on the River Yacuma looking for a good place to walk and look for anacondas, which with a little luck, we will find. During our tour we will continue to see a variety of birds, capybara, caimen, turtles and other animals. Then after lunch we will take the car and return to Rurrenabaque where we will arrive at  about 4:30 p.m.

PAMPAS: Home of the Dolphins and Awesome Anaconda

Day 1 – We will leave at 8.30 am and travel in a comfortable vehicle to Santa Rosa. Along the way we will have great opportunities to see sloths, anteaters, birds, and other animals. Around midday we will take a boat trip of about 15 minutes to our eco-lodge, “The Turtles”. You will be shown your accommodation and we will have lunch. In the afternoon, after a rest, we will go to the beautiful Lake Bravo where we can go piranha fishing, look for toucans and watch a magical sunset. After dinner we will take a short boat trip to look for the eyes of animals by torchlight.

Day 2 – We will start the day at 7.30 am with a good breakfast and then take the boat along the River Yacuma where will look for animals such as caimen, capybara, turtles, dolphins, monkeys and many different birds. We will return to the eco-lodge for lunch. Then, after a short rest, either in your room or in the hammocks, we will go in search of a suitable place to swim with the dolphins – depending on the time of year.

Day 3. – We will get up early (5:30 am) to watch the sunrise and listen to the sounds of daybreak:  the cries of monkeys and birdsong. After breakfast we will take a short walk in the pampas to look for the impressive anaconda. We will return to the lodge for lunch and after lunch we will go back to Rurrenabaque where we will arrive at about 4:30 p.m.

COMFORTABLE ECO LODGES

Our Eco-lodge “Mashaquipe”  & Eco-lodge “Turtles”  comprises comfortable cabins within Madidi National Park and Pampas. These are built with materials from the forest and are in total harmony with the natural environment. We have double, twin or triple rooms and a dormitory all with shared and the Pampa the rooms are available with both shared and private bathrooms.

At both sites our rooms are equipped with mosquito nets, towels, toilet paper and soap. Electricity is available for four hours a day.

However we will have the boat for security, for our backpacks and for people who do not wish to participate in this activity. We will have lunch and a rest. In the afternoon you can either rest or choose an activity, for example, you may want to make traditional handicrafts or go fishing.

Day 3. – We will get up at 6.00 am and have breakfast before returning to Rurrenabaque where we will arrive at about 8.30am. We will immediately leave for Santa Rosa. Day 5 – We will start the day at 7.30 am with a good breakfast and then take the boat along the River Yacuma where will look for animals such as caimen, capybara, turtles, dolphins, monkeys and many different birds. We will return to the eco-lodge for lunch. Then, after a short rest, either in your room or in the hammocks, we will go in search of a suitable place to swim with the dolphins – depending on the time of year.

Day 6. – We will get up early (5:00 am) to watch the sunrise and listen to the sounds of howler monkeys and birds which herald the awakening of the pampas. We will have breakfast and then go back out on the River Yacuma looking for a good place to walk and search for anacondas, which with a little luck, we will find. We will return to the eco-lodge for lunch and then, at about 2pm, we will take the car and return to Rurrenabaque where we will arrive at  about 4:30 p.m.
